A year in review...Life as the Front Desk Receptionist

The last review I did was my 90 day.  A lot has happened since then!  Today marks my official 1 year with Young Life and I can't believe it.  It feels like I've been at Young Life WAY longer than a year...all in good ways I might add!  :)

Here's the summary of my life at the Front Desk in one short year.
  • I'm one of a handful of employees who knows every single employee by name and face.
  • It's really hard to mask the bad day you might be having when you are the "face" of Young Life.
  • I'm still working at being the smile in everyone's day.  I may be the only smile they get and I don't take that lightly.
  • Not only have I "mastered" (haha) all employee names but a lot of our regular vendors, employee spouses, children of employees as well!  Lots of relationship building has happened in the past year!
  • My Front Desk co-worker and I continue to be the best team!  We have a great time sharing the Front Desk and its many tasks.
  • My behind doesn't resemble the chair.  :)
  • The candy smiles were a hit but I have moved on to Pop Rocks (party for the mouth) and Smarties (because we have so many smarties in the organization!).  :)
  • I'm still trying to work the "cute" since I'm the afternoon face of Young Life.  :)
Highlights of the past year:
  • Our department lunches!  We have a great time, lots of laughs with the Building Services Team!
  • My day trip to Frontier Ranch to live a day in the life of a Young Life Camper.
  • Being invited to join full time Young Life staff in Orlando in January 2012 for the All Staff Young Life Celebration...all expenses paid for both myself and Lanny!  So blessed by this show of generosity...
  • Relationships that have developed and grown.  It's been a joy!
Weirdest Tasks I performed my first year:
  • Researching the average times a day a man and women use the restroom.  (Yes I am being totally serious and yes my Boss was totally serious about me researching this! The answer?  Women - 8, Men - 7)
  • Researching Big Horn Sheep, Deer, and Elk Shower Curtains.
  • Inspector of chair mats.
Biggest assumptions I have encountered from others about being at the Front Desk?
That I am bored "all of the time".  Oh sure there are days that I can't stand to be on Facebook one more second but really the majority of the time I am busy with a variety of tasks.  In fact, the last couple of weeks I haven't had much personal time at the Front Desk at all!  My 5.5 hours have been filled with work related tasks!

The conclusion at the end of 1 year at the Young Life Front Desk?
I LOVE MY JOB!
